Environmental,Social, and Corporate Governance.
We believe that ESG is the reimagination of a static asset into a flow of resources – a system of systems. In the built environment, it concerns being well informed about assets’ environmental and social impact, communicating this across the value chain, and taking responsibility. We integrate these issues into our strategy and portfolio with every development.
Our Impact and ESG Goals
Our team is constantly investigating the use of new technologies. Therefore, we investigate the most suitable application of sustainable building materials, renewable energy, water, waste management and recycling systems while considering all facets of the building’s life cycle, from design, construction, to operation and maintenance.
Gender Equality
As a female-owned and led business, promoting gender equality is in our DNA. Gender diverse companies form part of every construction project we undertake. Gender equality is not only a fundamental human right but a necessary foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world.
Affordable & clean energy
Access to clean and affordable energy is key to the development of agriculture, business, communications, education, healthcare and transportation. The fund targets a minimum of 20% savings in energy, water and embodied energy in materials and investigates the introduction of suitable renewable energy generation in each property.
Decent work & economic growth
The Fund applies a benchmark index of 5 jobs per million spent on direct jobs and 5,18 jobs per million spent on indirect jobs. 30% of construction packages are allocated to local sub-contractors within pre-determined trades which must be at least 50% black-owned. At every opportunity, building materials are procured from local SMMEs and BBBEE suppliers.
Industry innovation & infrastructure
We develop quality, reliable, sustainable and resilient infrastructure to support economic development and human well-being. We focus on working with municipalities to enhance basic infrastructure and services. All our properties target Green Building/Edge certification and our tenants have access to back-up power and 24/7 WiFi access.
Sustainable cities & communities
Urban Kraal’s competitive advantage lies in our ability to identify development opportunities that fulfil our investment mandate. We provide access to adequate, safe and affordable housing and basic services in a manner that complies with ESG expectations and aims for green building certification. In addition to creating jobs, we enhance basic infrastructure and promote nodal gentrification, sustainably.
